• Breast Augmentation

  Breast augmentation is a very popular procedure for women and among the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures. Plastic surgeons in the United States can perform this procedure by placing a saline or silicone gel filled implant under the crease in the breast, around the nipple, through the armpit, or through the belly button. The implant can be placed under the breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle. After surgery, breasts will appear “fuller” with an increase in volume, enhanced projection, and more shapely contour. Incision scars eventually fade over time but are permanent and can thicken in a small percentage of people. Which incision should I use for breast augmentation? The most common incision used for breast augmentation is the inframammary (under the breast) incision. Approximately 80% of women across the country have breast augmentation performed using this incision. It is usually well-hidden and has a low complication rate. The periareolar incision (scar around the colored part of the nipple) is another option. This incision typically heals well, but is located on the front of the breast. Studies are showing that the periareolar incision results in a higher risk of complications, such as capsular contracture. Therefore, Dr. Youn does not recommend this approach as the first option. The transaxillary (armpit) incision is also used, but primarily with saline implants and comes with a higher risk of capsular contracture as well. The belly button technique (trans-umbilical breast augmentation, or TUBA) is used by a handful of plastic surgeons nationwide, but conveys a higher risk of complications as well. Dr. Youn is not an advocate of the transumbilical or the transaxillary techniques and does not offer them. What is the difference between a silicone gel and saline breast implant? There are benefits and drawbacks with each of these implant types. Saline implants are simple, less expensive, and there is never a question of whether they are broken or not. These implants are filled with sterile salt water, the same fluid that is given to a person who is in the ER being treated for dehydration. If the implant outer shell develops a break or tear, the implant will quickly deflate, often within a couple hours. The saline that leaks out of the implant is safely absorbed by the body. Because it’s typically very obvious when a saline implant breaks, there is no need for expensive tests to follow these implants. The drawback of a saline implant is the fact that it is not as natural looking or feeling as a silicone implant. Some patients complain of wrinkles and ripples, mainly on the bottom or the sides of the implants. A silicone implant looks and feels more natural than a saline implant but is more expensive and more controversial than saline. In general, the question is How Can We Tell If A Silicone Implant Is Broken? Because the silicone inside the new silicone implants is no longer a liquid, but a cohesive gel, it may be very difficult to tell whether an implant may have a break or tear in the outside shell. The FDA therefore recommends that all patients who undergo cosmetic breast augmentation with silicone implants undergo an MRI or ultrasound of the breasts 5 years after the original surgery and every other year thereafter. This is not a requirement, however. Make sure to discuss this with your board-certified plastic surgeon prior to undergoing a silicone gel breast augmentation. What is the gummy bear breast implant, and is it an option for me? The FDA has approved the shaped, form-stable silicone breast implants, otherwise known as the “gummy bear” breast implant. There are many differences between the gummy bear implant and the other silicone gel implants being used. First, the silicone gel inside the gummy bear implants is thick, firm, and resists deformation. For this reason, the implants are called “form-stable.” There is virtually no risk of silicone leakage with this implant. Second, the gummy bear implants are made in a teardrop shape with a textured (sandpaper-like) surface. Unlike the smooth, round silicone implants, these implants are not made to move around inside the breast pocket, but are designed to fit snug inside the breast. Third, the form-stable implant must be inserted through the scar under the breast, and utilizes a slightly longer scar than the other types of breast implants. At this time, Dr. Youn no longer uses these implants. The textured shell of these implants comes with a risk of a very rare type of cancer called BIA-ALCL. Plastic surgeons are still learning more about this extremely uncommon condition,

• Corrective Breast Surgery

  There is corrective breast surgery for all types of problems, such as softening up of a hard breast (or capsular contracture). There are many ways to treat capsular contracture. The simplest technique is a capsulotomy, where the scar tissue surrounding the implant is opened up. A capsulectomy involves removal of a portion or all (complete capsulectomy) of the scar tissue. Sometimes plastic surgeons will close off one breast pocket (such as a pocket under the muscle) and create a brand new, virgin breast pocket in a new location (such as above the muscle). A final technique is creation of a neopectoral pocket, where a new pocket is made above a current under-the-muscle breast pocket. In most cases these corrective breast surgeries can result in a soft, realistic breast with no discomfort. There is, however, always a risk that the scar tissue will come back. Other breast implant problems include implant displacement, malposition, deflation, leak, and asymmetry. It’s also important to realize that any patient who has a complication or untoward result from previous breast surgery is at significantly higher risk than the average patient for a less-than-ideal result from revision surgery. How long is the recovery time for corrective breast surgery? It varies depending on what type of correction is needed. In most patients the recovery time is significantly less than with the first surgery. Dr. Youn will take extensive time during a consultation to inform you on your options available, as well as the recovery time that is necessary. Breast Reduction (Reduction Mammaplasty) Large, pendulous breasts may cause a woman to potentially experience various medical problems caused by the excessive weight of the breast tissue. Problems with posture, skeletal deformities, back and neck pain, skin irritations and breathing problems are common with this condition. Bra straps often leave indentations in the shoulder area. Many women, especially teenage girls, are very self-conscious if they have unusually large breasts. Breast reduction removes fat, glandular tissue, and excessive skin, resulting in smaller, lighter and firmer breasts that are better-shaped in proportion to the rest of the body. A breast reduction always combines removal of excess skin and breast tissue with a breast lift. Traditionally, this has been performed with a scar around the areola, and then in an upside-down T-shape. The scar fades with time, over approximately 6 months to 1 year. The scar may be nearly invisible in many patients after about 1-2 years, although is still permanent. The surgery time is usually 3-4 hours, with general anesthesia. Many patients spend the night in the hospital, although going home after a few hours is usually fine. Recovery time is about 2 weeks before going back to work, 3 weeks before going back to the gym. During your consultation, Dr. Youn will discuss your treatment options for breast reduction surgery. Depending on your individual situation and insurance requirements, your health insurance may cover the costs of your breast reduction surgery. Unfortunately, Dr. Youn is no longer taking new insurance patients, but does perform the surgery as a cosmetic procedure. Breast ReductionBreast Reduction Breast Lift (Mastopexy) Over time, the effects of gravity along with the loss of the skin’s natural elasticity begins to have an effect on the appearance of a woman’s breasts. These factors, combined with pregnancies and nursing will often cause the breasts to lose their youthful shape and firmness. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. The procedure can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). Breast implants inserted in conjunction with a mastopexy procedure can increase both firmness and size. It is impossible to have a breast lift without scars. It is also important to realize that a breast augmentation alone will not lift the breasts. It will only make them larger. The only way to lift the breasts is with a mastopexy (breast lift). Dr. Youn is using the Galashape internal mesh as an “internal bra” in some of his mastopexy surgeries. This may convey a longer-lasting result. Be sure to ask about it at the consultation. What scars are associated with a mastopexy (breast lift) There are three main types of mastopexy scars. Patients who need a minimal lift or just a reduction in their areolar diameter may be good candidates for a donut mastopexy. This involves a scar around the areola only. Patients who need a moderate lift often undergo a variation of the lollipop lift, with a scar around the areola and vertically downward. Patients who need a maximal lift often undergo a lift with scars that extend around the areola, vertically, and horizontally under the breast (inverted T).

• Abdominoplasty Procedures

  Hidden Scar Tummy Tuck Generally referred to as a “tummy tuck”, abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen. The procedure also helps to flatten the abdomen by tightening the surrounding muscles. Women, with stretched abdominal areas due to previous pregnancies, can benefit considerably from abdominoplasty, although they should have completed their childbearing. Older individuals whose skin has lost some of its elasticity and are slightly obese can experience an improvement in their abdominal area. If you are in generally good physical shape but are concerned about abdominal fat deposits or loose skin that does not respond to diet and exercise, the procedure can potentially reduce or even eliminate a protruding abdomen. It can also be very helpful in getting rid of persistent stretch marks, caused by pregnancy or rapid weight loss or gain. What about the scar? It is impossible to remove the excess skin of the lower abdomen without a scar. Other treatments such as lasers, mesotherapy, and even liposuction will not remove or significantly tighten loose, hanging skin. They are a waste of time and money. The only way to remove this skin, tighten the loose muscle, and create the flattest tummy possible is via a tummy tuck. This surgery does create a relatively long permanent scar, however in most patients the scar fades with time. While abdominoplasty will produce a permanent scar, Dr. Youn focuses on placing the scar low, below the bikini or bathing suit line. In this way it can be easily hidden, therefore earning the name the “Hidden Scar Tummy Tuck.” Tummy TuckTummy Tuck How long is the recovery from the surgery? Most patients need 2 weeks to recover from a tummy tuck and are back to exercising by 3-4 weeks. Dr. Youn uses a pain pump in his patients, which significantly decreases discomfort for the first 3-4 days. Patients must wear an abdominal binder, which is like a corset, for three weeks. A small drain is also used to remove fluid which can accumulate in the surgical area. These are removed within 3-7 days. Dr. Youn utilizes revolutionary progressive tension sutures in all of his tummy tuck surgeries to limit the risk of fluid collections, the number of drains used, and the amount of time the patient has the drain. This can cut his patients’ healing time in half. Tummy tucks can be performed in one of three ways, depending on how much excess skin needs to be removed. Most patients are candidates for a “full abdominoplasty”, where the scar extends from hip to hip. Mini-Abdominoplasty Patients with less excess skin are candidates for a “mini-abdominoplasty,” where the scar is shorter and there is no scar around the belly button. The scar is usually not visible under a bikini. This is best for patients who have loose skin in the lower abdomen only, and remain flat above the belly button. While the scar is shorter than with a full abdominoplasty, the results are unfortunately much less dramatic with a mini-abdominoplasty. Remember that ‘mini-abdominoplasty generally equals mini-results.’ Circumferential Abdominoplasty and Fleur-De-Lis Abdominoplasty Patients who have a lot of excess skin, usually after massive weight loss, are candidates for a “circumferential abdominoplasty,” where the scar extends around to the back, or a “Fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty” which creates an upside-down ‘T’ shaped scar of the abdomen. Both of these procedures are for patients with a large amount of excess skin which would be inadequately removed with a traditional abdominoplasty. While health insurance may help to pay for some of the operating room and surgeon costs, it usually does not pay for the cosmetic portions of this procedure. During the consultation, Dr. Youn will explain these different types of tummy tucks in detail, and decide together which is right for you. Dr. Youn does not perform circumferential abdominoplasty and is no longer taking new insurance patients.

• Liposculpting

  Among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction (also known as “lipoplasty,” “liposculpting” or “suction lipectomy”) sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas around the thighs, knees, waist, hips, abdomen, chin, neck and upper arms. Dr. Youn performs mainly tumescent liposuction. Tumescent liposuction is used in the majority of patients who want a maximal amount of fat removed with the shortest recovery time and the shortest operating time. What about ultrasonic or laser liposuction? Although Dr. Youn has performed these procedures in the past, he no longer performs either of them. He considers ultrasonic liposuction obsolete and unnecessary, and laser liposuction basically a marketing gimmick. Neither of them appears to give the added results that many doctors (and device manufacturers) promise. Liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, but the procedure can eliminate areas of fat that are unresponsive to typical weight-loss methods. In general, two main types of patients benefit most from liposuction. The first type are those healthy individuals who have certain areas of fat which do not respond to diet and exercise, such as the woman who inherited her mother’s thighs, or the man who inherited his father’s love handles. They are ideal candidates for liposuction. The second type is that person who needs a jump start in their weight loss program, which liposuction can provide. Sculpsure Treatments Non-Invasive Fat Reduction YOUN Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer the newest device in non-invasive fat reduction. Sculpsure uses a laser to dissolve away fat from stubborn problem areas, such as the tummy, hips, thighs, and arms. It can even be used for those unwanted bra bulges! The treatment takes 25 minutes, and you can treat up to four areas at one time. Results may be visible in as early as 6 weeks, but can take up to 12 weeks total. Sculpsure is not a weight loss device. Although the results can be impressive, they are not on the level of what can be achieved with liposuction. The best candidates for Sculpsure are at a healthy body weight (BMI less than 30) but have stubborn areas of fat that diet and exercise won’t get rid of. • Facelift, Mini Facelift, & Necklift

  Over time, the long-term effects of gravity, exposure to sun, dry air, and general stress takes its toll on an individual’s face and neckline. A facelift can considerably reduce these signs of aging. There are many kinds of facelift surgeries, from the traditional ‘skin-only’ facelifts to lunchtime facelifts to 3-D Facelifts. What types of facelifts are there? Facelifts can be categorized into a few different types. In general, ALL facelifts entail cutting the skin around the ears and pulling the skin of the face back to remove the excess. This can result in a smoother jawline, less fat in the neck, and an overall younger look. There is no such thing as a nonsurgical facelift. The least invasive facelifts are usually the “lunchtime facelifts.” These range from suture-only lifts, such as the Contour Threadlift and the Silhouette Lift, to the “one-hour” types of facelifts. The one-hour lifts include those “revolutionary” lunchtime facelifts you see on TV infomercials, with impressive, but misleading results. The studies performed with the suture-only lifts showed results which lasted only a year or so, however the sutures stay in your face forever (long after the results have faded). Many companies which produced the barbed sutures used in these lifts have discontinued making them. Very few surgeons perform suture-only lifts anymore. The one-hour facelifts you see on TV are extremely misleading. These are not the revolutionary procedures they claim to be. Instead, they are simple variations of simple procedures which were proven long ago to be pretty ineffective. However, phony plastic surgeons pay thousands of dollars for ads touting these procedures as the greatest thing since the breast implant. Before-and-after photos are misleading, and don’t necessary protray the procedure that they are advertising. Most surgeons who work for these one-hour facelift centers are not even real plastic surgeons certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Instead, they are doctors trained in other specialties (like ENT) who take weekend courses to learn these simple procedures. Follow-up care is often not provided. It’s a classic bait-and-switch. If you are considering one of these bargain lunchtime facelift centers, be very, very wary.FaceliftFacelift Most ‘real’ facelifts entail a combination of removal of skin, tightening up of the underlying muscle (called the SMAS and platysma), and removal of excess fat. Every plastic surgeon performs their facelifts differently. Some well-respected facelift techniques include the MACS Lift, the Composite Facelift, the Deep Plane Facelift, all types of SMAS-tightening facelifts, and the 3-D Volumetric Facelift. The difference in results for any of these types of facelifts vary per surgeon and patient. Most of these types of facelifts have been proven to have high satisfaction rates. Where are the scars of a facelift? The scars of a more traditional facelift or a mini facelift extend from the top of the ears, around the earlobe, and in the crease behind the ear. Some plastic surgeons extend the scar into the temple area, although Dr. Youn prefers not to do this. In people with very heavy necks, the scar can also extend somewhat down the hairline in the back for a better neck lift. The scars usually fade nicely with time, although all patients are at risk of a thick scar depending on how their body heals. How much pain is there with a facelift? There is usually very little discomfort with a facelift. Patients may take a few pain pills, although some patients don’t need any at all. How long does a facelift take? Dr. Youn’s muscle-tightening lower facelift takes approximately 3 to 4 hours to perform, depending on the amount of work to be done. Minifacelifts take closer to three hours to perform. Most patients look very presentable within 1-2 weeks. All patients have swelling which can last for 4-6 months, however. What is the 3-D Volumetric Facelift? Plastic surgeons used to think that a face aged in only 2 dimensions, by sagging of the skin. Hence, traditional facelift techniques treated facial aging by focusing only on tightening.

• Submental Liposuction

  Submental liposuction removes the fat under the chin and in the neck to produce a sharper jawline and neckline. This procedure is best in patients who still have elastic skin and involves a small 1 cm incision under the chin. Patients who are older and/or have loose skin under their chin are not as good candidates for this procedure. Patients usually don’t need any pain pills, and often go back to work after just a couple days. More and more plastic surgeons are using laser-assisted liposuction (Smart Lipo, Lipolite, Slim Lipo, etc.) as an aid in tightening the skin. The jury is still out on whether the benefits of laser-assisted liposuction are significant enough to notice. Laser-assisted submental liposuction will not tighten up the submental area anywhere near as impressive as an actual facelift. Facial Fat Grafting or Transfer Facial aging involves both drooping of the skin and a loss of volume. While the loosening of the skin is usually most evident by the time you reach your forties or fifties, loss of volume can be seen as early as your late twenties. Loss of volume, or a gaunt look to the face, is most often seen in the lips, the cheeks, and under the eyes. This is best treated by Facial Fat Grafting or Transfer. Fat can be removed from the tummy or thighs via a small incision, purified, and reinjected into areas of the face which have become gaunt with age or hereditary factors. The amount of fat that lasts permanently varies per patient and per area, and can be repeated if necessary for optimal results. There is usually minimal discomfort and scars, although significant swelling may persist for two to three weeks. Most people have a ‘take’ of 30-70%, with a lower take in people who have a high metabolism (really thin). Some surgeons use a more traumatic fat grafting procedure which can result in swelling that can last months, which Dr. Youn does not advocate. Browlift (Forehead Lift) A forehead lift or browlift is used to correct a drooping browline (eyebrow area) reducing the horizontal lines and furrows (worry lines) that often make a person appear angry, sad or tired. The procedure creates a refreshed, youthful appearance to the forehead area above the eyes. There are two surgical methods, and during your initial consultation the procedure that Dr. Youn believes works best for you will be recommended. Dr. Youn most often performs the Endotine Endoscopic Browlift. This enables the procedure to be performed with a minimal number of incisions and a minimum of downtime. With the Endotine system, Dr. Youn is able to perform an endoscopic browlift using small absorbable implants instead of metal screws. The brow is lifted, creating a refreshed and youthful look. The implants are palpable, but absorb completely within a few months. Dr. Youn utilizes five separate 2 cm incisions for his endoscopic browlifts. Recovery is minimal, although patients may have bruising that can last for a few weeks and swelling that can persist for a couple months. Brow Lift The traditional method of browlift utilizes a longer surgical incision that is hidden either in the hairline or in the scalp, typically extending from ear to ear. This is a time-tested procedure with great results, but a higher rate of numbness and bald areas. Dr. Youn typically reserves this procedure for patients who are not good candidates for the endoscopic browlift or have not had lasting results from an ‘endobrow.’

• Eyelid Lift

  Eyelid surgery is designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper and lower eyelids. The procedure usually takes about 1 hour and can be performed using sedation or general anesthesia. The discomfort is usually minimal, as most patients don’t take any pain pills. Patients usually look good within 1-2 weeks. An upper blepharoplasty is used to correct drooping upper eyelids that tend to sag with time. A thin scar is placed in the crease of the upper eyelid, where it is well-hidden. Excess skin is removed, often along with herniating fat. Insurance plans occasionally cover upper blepharoplasty surgery when the upper eyelid skin is so excessive that it disturbs the vision. If you believe you may be a candidate for insurance-covered blepharoplasty, be sure to visit an optometrist like Dr. Scott Youn at the Eye Place for visual field testing prior to your consultation. Unfortunately, Dr. Youn is no longer seeing new insurance patients. Lower blepharoplasty is used to remove excess puffiness or bags from under the eyes. The lower eyelid puffiness is caused by excess herniating fat, which is removed during the procedure. In general, lower eyelid wrinkles are not removed by lower blepharoplasty. Wrinkles are best treated using lasers or chemical peels. Lower blepharoplasty can be performed under sedation or general anesthesia, takes about an hour and fifteen minutes, and results in very little discomfort. Most patients don’t take pain pills and look good within a week or two. There are three techniques of lower blepharoplasty surgery: The traditional technique entails a small incision under the eyelashes and is best for patients who have excess skin on their lower eyelids in addition to puffiness. Skin can be removed, along with the herniating fat. The scar is usually well-hidden and can be difficult to see. The benefit of this technique is the ability to remove excess skin. The drawback is the potentially visible scar and the higher rate of lid retraction. Some plastic surgeons believe that this technique can result in a higher rate of ectropion (or eyelid drooping) due to the fact that the muscle is disturbed during this procedure. For that reason, Dr. Youn no longer performs this procedure. He performs the next two, lower risk techniques. The transconjunctival technique utilizes an incision inside the eyelid, allowing Dr. Youn to remove the lower eyelid fat without any visible external scars. This technique is often preferred for younger people without loose skin or people who do not desire any visible scars. Often, chemical peels can be used to improve any fine wrinkling under the eyes. This can be done at the same time as the transconjunctival blepharoplasty. The benefits of this technique are the lack of visible scars and low incidence of eyelid retraction. The drawback is the inability to remove any excess, crepey skin of the lower eyelids. The pinch technique combines the two above techniques. In the pinch technique, Dr. Youn removes the excess fat via an incision inside the eyelid. Once this is performed, he then removes excess skin from the front of the eyelid by pinching off skin only, leaving the muscle undisturbed. This therefore allows Dr. Youn the ability to remove fat AND skin, all while minimizing the risk of eyelid retraction (since the muscle layer is undisturbed).

• Nose Reshaping (Rhinoplasty)

  Surgery to reshape the nose is among the most common plastic surgery procedures. This procedure can reduce or increase the size of the nose, remove an unwanted hump, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, and/or narrow the width of the nostrils. Chin Enhancement Chin augmentation can change the shape of the chin to extend the chin from the face. The contour of the chin can be reshaped to be smoother or more angular in appearance. Dr. Youn performs this procedure using either the patient’s own fat or a small implant placed through the mouth with no external scars. Chin augmentation can be tailored to create a more balanced yet feminine look in females, and a stronger, more masculine appearance in males. Swelling is usually minimal, and most patients can return to work within a few days. Lip Enhancement Full and vivacious lips have always been recognized as aesthetically important features which signify youth and beauty. Some of us however, are born with thin, ill-defined lips, or lose the fullness in their lips as they grow older. Dr. Youn performs lip enhancement in a variety of ways, including using fat grafting or injectables like Juvederm, Restylane, and Prevelle to increase the fullness and enhance the shape of lips. Corner Mouthlift (A.K.A The Grin Lift) The corners of the mouth tend to droop as people age. Dr. Youn corrects this in two different ways. For minor drooping, injections of Restylane, Juvederm, or fat can provide a lift for the corners of the mouth. For patients with more severe drooping, a surgical corner mouthlift (a.k.a. the grinlift) can be performed. It is a procedure which can be performed in the office under local anesthetic, and can result in a significant lift with a small scar.

• Injectables

  BOTOX® Cosmetic BOTOX® Cosmetic is a protein that weakens muscles that wrinkle the skin. It is injected under the skin into areas surrounding the eyes and forehead to reduce “worry lines”, “crow’s feet” and “frown lines”. BOTOX is administered by Dr. Youn, Christina Biotti, RN, BSN, Devon O’Connor-Kutz, PA, and Rachael, RN, BSN. They also use BOTOX for elevating the eyebrows and reducing the width of the jaw in selected patients. The procedure is quick and performed in the office with minimal pain and no downtime. Most patients say it’s much easier than going to the dentist! We can use topical anesthetics such as Topicaine to numb the skin. Dysport™ The newest competitor to Botox cosmetic, Dysport is also a Botulinum toxin Type A, and works very similarly to Botox. It is effective in temporarily reducing facial wrinkles, and the treatments are nearly identical to Botox treatments. One added benefit is that Dysport injections are less expensive than Botox. If you’ve been getting good results with Botox, then Dysport may be a way to achieve your results and save a little money! Injectable Fillers Restylane® (including Silk, Lyft, Defyne and Refyne), Juvéderm®, Voluma™, Volbella, and Vollure These are temporary “filler products” used to add fullness to areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks and forehead. They are fast, effective ways to smooth facial lines and define the lip border. In addition, they can be used to fill in deep and shallow wrinkles that cannot be treated by BOTOX®. The results are immediate but temporary. Dr. Youn, Devon PA, Christina RN, BSN, and Rachael RN, BSN perform these procedures in the comfort and privacy of the office. We use topical anesthetics as well as dental blocks (in selected patients) to numb the skin. Downtime and discomfort are very minimal. Voluma® is the newest hyaluronic acid injectable and is FDA-approved for rejuvenating and filling in the cheeks. Dr. Youn was one of the first Voluma injectors in the state of Michigan. It’s a quick, nearly painless way to fill in and lift sunken, droopy cheeks. Studies show it lasts up to 2 years. There is no downtime and usually very minimal bruising and swelling. Dr. Youn often uses a specialized cannula to inject Voluma to make it as safe and pain-free as possible! Sculptra® Sculptra Aesthetic is the newest FDA approved injectable to improve wrinkles and facial volume. This long-term facial plumper has been shown to last 2 years or longer, and usually consists of 3 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart. The results are gradual, but they add a softness and volume to the face which can create a nice, youthful rejuvenation. It is composed of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the GI tract that dissolves fat. The treatment is quick, relatively painless, and requires no downtime in general. • Chemical Peels

  Our aestheticians perform the MicroPeel and Glycolic Peels for patients who want their skin to be softer and smoother without downtime. This is the classic “lunchtime peel” which consists of a mild acid that smoothes the skin, improves fine lines, and removes aged, damaged skin without discomfort or downtime. These peels are geared towards patients who do not exfoliate on a regular basis. Jessner’s Peel The Jessner’s Peel is an innovative, in-office treatment peel that targets melasma, acne, fine lines, rough texture, large pores and dullness. This highly effective peel is designed to provide skin renewal and stimulation. It has minimal downtime depending on how deep you’d like the peel to be. The Jessner’s Peel is suitable for most skin types. Controlled Depth TCA Peel The Controlled Depth Peel can restore tighter, smoother and younger looking skin regardless of age, color or skin type. Using TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid), the Controlled Depth Peel enables the physician or aesthetician to control the peel process and its depth. These applications will lead to the removal of thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin. Layers of dead skin cells are exfoliated and replaced by healthier ones, allowing the skin’s own clarity and tightness to resurface. Those who have blemish-prone skin, wrinkles, pigmentation problems, sun damage, or general poor skin quality will benefit the most. Automated Micro Needling Automated Micro-Needling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for treating the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance. During this procedure, a micro-needling device is used by our aestheticians Monica and Paula to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin in order to naturally produce collagen and elastin. The miraDry procedure is quick, non-invasive and provides a lasting solution for excessive underarm sweat. The handpiece from the miraDry System, when placed on the underarm, delivers precisely controlled energy to the region where the sweat glands reside and eliminates sweat glands non-invasively. The sweat glands don’t grow back once eliminated, resulting in a dramatic and lasting reduction of underarm sweat and even odor. What is the procedure like? The procedure involves no surgical incisions or cuts. The clinician customizes treatment for each underarm area with multiple placements of the miraDry handpiece. Local anesthesia is administered to the underarms prior to the procedure to maintain comfort. Your office visit appointment will generally last about an hour. Using our new protocols, often only one treatment is needed for great results. What happens after the procedure? There is minimal to no downtime following the procedure. We typically recommend a mild over-the-counter pain medication and use of ice packs for a few days.
